Sidewalks change from concrete to older brick; traction stays good in dry weather but the surface is uneven in places. A gradual climb begins at Mount Vernon Street. Gas lamps and low iron fences set the pattern block by block. Acorn Street is narrow and often busy with cameras; the stones remain uneven and are best viewed from the corners. Louisburg Square is private around its central green; the walk continues on the outer pavements with simple views into the square. The grade on Beacon Hill is moderate but continuous; strollers and wheelchairs manage it with pauses. In light rain, tree cover softens the walk through the Garden; brick on the hill becomes slick and calls for slower pacing.
