Puerto Rican Festival of Massachusetts: Two Days at Franklin Park

Franklin Park changes on the last weekend of July. The Playstead lawn takes in the stage, the vendors, and the rides—and by noon Saturday, the crowd fills in fast enough that you stop looking for the perfect spot and just pick one. The Puerto Rican Festival of Massachusetts runs this weekend with free admission both days. The festival has come back to this park every summer for decades.

The parade comes first. Saturday morning, the procession moves down Columbus Avenue toward the park—with flags, music, floats, and the kind of crowd that lines the sidewalks two people deep for a mile. By the time the parade reaches Franklin Park, the festival grounds are already open. Live music runs on two stages through the afternoon. Vendors spread across the grounds—pernil, pasteles, and tostones at one end; carnival rides for the kids at the other. The main stage runs through the afternoon and into the evening headliners.

Franklin Park sits in Roxbury, four miles from downtown Boston.

The T gets you to the edge of the park but not to the Playstead—there’s a walk involved either way, and on festival weekend the streets around the park fill fast. Visitors coming from hotels, the airport, or other neighborhoods often find it easier to arrange a direct ride in. Boston Town Car runs event transportation to Franklin Park—drop off at the festival entrance and pickup whenever the day wraps up.
