Seaport Harborwalk keeps to the water’s edge from the Fort Point Channel, past Fan Pier, and on toward Pier 4. Underfoot: wide boards and the small bronze Harborwalk discs set into the planks. Low rails leave the view open to ferries sliding across the harbor and planes rising along the flight path. Near the Moakley Courthouse the path widens, with benches aimed at the channel and the Seaport Boulevard bridge cutting a clean frame across the river. Martin’s Park sits just beyond, its low hill taking the wind off the boardwalk.
Midway, the path slips behind brick warehouses and new glass towers. Office workers queue at food windows on Northern Avenue, then carry trays to the seawall; runners cut past at a steady clip. Gulls hang over the slips beside the Barking Crab; further along, the channel narrows and the route turns east toward Fan Pier. The Institute of Contemporary Art lifts over the water on its steel legs, a landmark that sets the corner for the next leg. Steps drop to the dock; a broad landing faces the harbor with room for photos and a pause.
Evening shifts the tone. Lights come on along the rail; swings in Seaport Common glow a block inland; yachts turn slowly at their moorings near Pier 4. Planes climb toward the north; their paths catch in glass on the Seaport façades. Wind rises and falls in pockets. Wayfinding signs keep the route simple, and every few minutes the path reveals a new angle on downtown—Custom House to the west, the Harbor Islands beyond the channel to the east.
Practical notes help. The boardwalk is level and stroller-friendly, but exposed in a breeze; an extra layer pays off after sunset. Restrooms and water are available at the ICA during operating hours and inside Seaport retailers. Meters fill early and garages carry evening rates.
A direct drop at the start keeps the walk straightforward. Boston Town Car can set passengers down near the Moakley Courthouse or Fan Pier Boulevard, then meet later at the agreed pickup point for the ride home, so the time between stays on the water, not in a garage.
